Have a burning question for us? You're not alone. These are some common questions we get asked. If the answer you need isn't here, please don't hesitate to contact us.

What Can I Compost?

• All fruit and vegetable scraps – including rinds and cores, but please remove those pesty stickers from your produce.
• Cookies, crackers, pasta – pretty much any dry food.
• Grains, cooked or uncooked – rice, oats, barley, wheat, etc.
• Coffee grounds, tea bags (no staples, please)
• Egg shells – please crush these.

Keep in mind that it takes less time for smaller objects to compost, so if for example, you have a whole pumpkin that has gone off, cut it into a few pieces first. This list is not comprehensive but is a general guideline.

What Can't I Compost?

Each composting site has different rules but Earth Bucket follows these ones:

• Bread
• Meat or meat byproducts of any kind. This includes bone, skins, fat, etc.
• Dairy products including milk, yoghurt, etc.

We don’t set these guidelines just for fun, they are important to the process of composting. The above food scraps and materials can slow down the composting process and can create bad odours, bad bacteria growth and attract pests. Please do not put these items in your Earth Bucket bin.

What suburbs do you serve?

Earth Bucket has launched in the inner west but we will be adding new areas as interest develops. If you’re interested in seeing Earth Bucket in your suburb, please let us know by using the “Register your Interest” form on the contact page.

Do you serve offices, cafes or restaurants?

Unfortunately, we do not yet have the capacity to serve food based businesses. However, we do work with offices and other non-food based businesses.

What if my bucket is full and I have extra scraps?

We are unable to accept what doesn’t fit in the bucket. If you feel that you require an additional or larger bucket, we are happy to discuss with you. Similarly, if you are hosting a dinner or one-off party at your house and will be creating more food waste, please call us to discuss options.

Where do I leave my bucket?

Please leave your Earth Bucket out the front of your house. If physical disability prevents you from leaving your bucket out the front, we are happy to arrange a different pick up point. Please do not leave your Earth Bucket near your red or green bins as it may be mistaken for rubbish and thrown away.

How do I pay?

You can pay via a PayPal account or by secure Direct Debit. Both can be completed on our subscribe page.

Why isn't this free?

There are costs involved in picking up your food waste as well as in dropping it off to appropriate facilities. A viable, free service for the pickup of food scraps has yet to be developed and that’s where we come in. Earth Bucket is a small business providing solutions for your desire to keep food waste out of landfill.

What if I don't live in your service area?

That’s a bummer, for you and for us. But, we aim to expand Earth Bucket’s service area so if you are interested in seeing us operating in your suburb, please register your interest via the form on our contact page. We can use this information to plan our next move.

I don’t need a pick up this week, how do I let you know?

Please e-mail or call us 2 weeks in advance to let us know that you will not be needing a pickup. Just let us know the timeframe and we won’t come.

How does a skipping a week affect my monthly payment?

It doesn’t.  We do not offer refunds for skipped weeks. However, if you are going to be away for an extended period of time you can temporarily suspend your service. Your payments will also be suspended until you return.

What happens if my bin is stolen?

If your Earth Bucket is stolen, please let us know and we will provide a new one. If your bin goes missing more than once we will ask you to pay $13 for a new one to be provided.

What happens if I move?

If you move to another property within our service area, we will simply start picking up your compost at your new address. If you move out of our service area, we will suspend service and payments.

How do I cancel my subscription?

We really hope you won’t want to! However, if you do want to cancel your subscription, just give us a call. We welcome all suggestions on how to improve our service so if there is something you think we could be doing better, please let us know. We will cancel all further payments immediately upon receiving your cancellation call.
